What did we do?
For our humanity's great challenges culminating activity, my partner (Kat) and I raised awareness for animal testing in cosmetics. We started a hashtag called #animaldontwearmakeup, and got multiple pictures and posts from people who noticed it. We went to laurentian and presented to multiple classes, and told them all about animal testing in cosmetics and what they could do to help.
The following Friday, we told our school, Cameron Heights, about animal testing and what they could do to help. We brought a dog in to help get peoples attention (it worked) and handed out slips of paper to remind people to post under the hashtag.
With starting our campaign, I feel as though I've given something to our community. Even if it is fairly small right now, I'm very proud of it. We raised awareness for an issue that is too often looked over. I've always loved animals. It feels great to have helped them, even if it was in the smallest way.

Why did you choose this as some of your best work?
Overall I think Kat and I reached our goal of how we wanted to start this off. We got the word out to the community, and worked really hard. We pulled all nighters working on this project, and it was totally worth it.
For me personally, it helped a lot with my communication skills. I've had a mild fear of public speaking, which luckily has gotten better over the years. But presenting in front of Laurentian really helped. The first couple classes we presented to, I was a bit nervous. But once I got the rush of it, I was almost excited to present. A feeling I've never felt before a presentation. I was able to speak to the kids, only once or twice glancing at my cue cards. I did a much better job at public speaking than I ever thought I would.
